The Future of Mobility: AVORA
Overview
My Role: Product Designer
Duration: January 2025 - August 2025
Responsibilities: Research, Prototyping, Branding, Ui Design
About: In 2025, I joined UNICEF as a product design intern to work with the Office of Innovation on creating a vision for the future of children’s mobility. I worked as a multidisciplinary designer, from conducting research to creating branding for the proposed solution.
The Problem: In the United States, school transportation options for students whose parents work overnight or shift work are lacking. These students often rely on alternative means of transportation, such as walking, biking, or getting rides from friends or other family members, to and from school.
How Might We: How might we alleviate the pressure on parents of ensuring that their children have a safe and reliable way to get to school each day?
The Goal: Using different foresight methods, create a vision for what transportation might look like in the next 5 to 10 years.
The Final Design
Trust: 40% of Parents who participated in user testing for Avora indicated that their trust in Autonomous Vehicles had increased after design changes of the mockups.
Independence: 75% of children who participated in user testing with their parents indicated that Avora would make them feel more independent from their parents.
Convenience: All Parents who participated indicated that Avora would be convenient for them. Noting that future features would make summer break especially easier to get their kids out of the house.
